Hi, I am Amit Kr. Basu. I have done B.Tech in 2007 (Electronics and Instrumentation Engineering) and completed M. Tech (Instrumentation and Control Engineering) in 2010 from India. After that I joined Nuclear Power Industry in India as a scientific officer and working as a design engineer in Reactor control sector there for last 5 years. My experience is in Computer based system design, Testing and commissioning of Computer based system in nuclear power plants in India. Now I want to switch in financial sector because I want to be a full time trader after 15-20 years from now. To full fill my goal I want to acquire knowledge and skills. So, I am planning to pursue MBA in finance or M.S in Financial Engineering from one of the top universities of USA/Europe to acquire knowledge. Then I want to join one of the top investment bank/hedge funds, where I can acquire necessary skills. After working there for 10-15 years I want to start my own business in trading. I want to engage my wife in MBA entrepreneurship program.

I am already 30 and married. Whether companies want to hire the candidate who is already in 30s and married? Whether doing MBA/MS at this age is sensible? Please help.

Best Regards

Amit Kr. Basu

The first portion sounds great - To full fill my goal I want to acquire knowledge and skills. So, I am planning to pursue MBA in finance or M.S in Financial Engineering from one of the top universities of USA/Europe to acquire knowledge. Then I want to join one of the top investment bank/hedge funds, where I can acquire necessary skills.

Quant skills are useful for the future, whether you wan to work in risk, big data, or trading.

The second part is wishful thinking - After working there for 10-15 years I want to start my own business in trading.

15 years down the road, at age of 45, you are assuming you can apply whatever trading knowledge or capital to become a trader? Putting your retirement funds and savings at risk is a stupid idea. I'm not saying you will be a bad trader - with advanced predatory algos and high speed computers going against you, i'm not sure when you can retire comfortably.
