How good is cmu phd in mathematical finance to be a quant?

I have admitted to cmu math phd program, and I wish to be a quant.
But I am not sure if a phd in mathematics,even in mathematical finance and in cmu, is the right way to go for me...
I should mention that as a one who can not afford costs of MFE programs, I do not have considerable chance to being admitted to MFE or MCF programs.(I have just applied to purdue CF(hope to get fuul financial support).
Any opinion, advice, suggestion is highly appreciated.
