How is a PhD in computational science (NOT computational finance) seen in the finance industry?

I am pursuing a MS in math and its concentration is in computational science. This sets me up nicely to pursue a PhD in computational science if I choose.

I would not be getting the PhD in computational science for the purposes of getting a job, but were I to obtain it, how valuable is it viewed in the finance industry? (compared to a PhD in CS, math, or physics)

Here is a sample curriculum at such a school:

http://www.math.gatech.edu/academics/graduate/phd-computational-sciences-and-engineering

Other schools such as Stanford, CalTech, MIT, among others, offer similar programs.

As you can see, it makes use of all of the math valuable to finance.

have you considered the industrial engineering program also offered by gatech?
it hosts gatech quant finance msc program, and PhD students can do research in Finance.
If your goal is to pursue a career in finance, why not go for that one?

Where did you find this out? (that Industrial engineering school hosts quant finance program, and that PhD students in Industrial engineering can pursue finance research?)
