Hi all,
How to get admitted to Baruch MFE?
And how to prepare for the application?
Would Pre-MFE seminars help in the application?

My background: Bachelor's in mechanical engineering from top2 university in China in 2015, tried to pursue a PhD but finished with a master's degree in mechanical engineering from a university (U.S. News ranking approximately 30s)in Oct. 2019, only one summer intern as quant in 2019 (not in USA, not big-name fund), then full-time job as mechanical engineer in NYC till now.
pros: I'm good at calculus, probability, stats, also spent a lot time on coding practice(mainly python), still learning C++.
cons: previous experience is mainly unrelated.
I've applied for several summer interns, but most of them wouldn't even give a online test due to my graduation time, so I'm re-considering a MFE.

Again, the one and only goal is to get a quant job.
Any comments would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks a lot!

The pre-MFE courses are very smart choice. If you do well, you will get an interview by the same faculty who teach in the MFE program.
If you impress them, it's a huge advantage given how selective the program is. For applicants without stellar grades, ideal profiles, it's an opportunity to score points.
Given their low cost advantage, I believe it's a smart decision to leverage all of these courses and any other options to improve your chance to get in the top ranked program.
Once you get in, you will get a job. You still have to work hard and do your part but the placement record is excellent.
Best of luck. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks a lot for your kind guidance!
As there are three seminars approaching this year, if I cannot take them all simultaneously, which one would you suggest I take as the first step?
Thanks again!
Fall Online Seminars in the Pre-MFE Program at Baruch College:
  • Advanced Calculus with Financial Engineering Applications (October 20 – December 15, 2025; syllabus)
  • Probability Theory for Financial Applications (October 21 – December 16, 2025; syllabus)
  • Numerical Linear Algebra for Financial Engineering (October 16 – December 18, 2025; syllabus)

When you apply to them and provide background they may advise accordingly.
A lot of applicants take 2 at the same time. They are all online. Depends on your work schedule you may want to take one only.
Thanks for your guidance, and I'll apply to these courses soon.
