Sorry if this is a repetitive question as I'm new to this site and must've asked this in the wrong thread. I'm an upcoming senior who's majoring in computer science and want to work as a quant at hedge fund such as D.E. Shaw and Renaissance Technologies someday. I've done some reading on quantitative finance and while companies like these usually hire PhDs. I know I need other skills for the filed such as portfolio theory, knowledge in Calculus as well as other mathematical concepts, and C++ to name a couple, but out of curiosity I was wondering if computer science is a good discipline to get a PhD to get into the field of quantitative finance?

Son, if you are seriously considering that you need to ask yourself 3 questions which will help you a lot in your life time :

1) Would these firms/hedge funds exist by the time you complete your study?

2) Why would they hire you from thousands of applicants?

3) How much does a cheap labour cost given the oversupply of quants flooding from every curve on planet earth?
