Job Opening: Quantitative Analyst

We are seeking candidates with outstanding academic background and a demonstrated track record of quantitative rigor and aptitude for learning. As our Quantitative Analyst, you will work directly with the manager of Modeling Team to perform on-demand, ad-hoc analyses in areas of quantitative marketing and pricing and revenue optimization to investigate and serve the needs of our existing and prospective client base. Collaborating closely with world-renowned scientists, engineers and with executive managers of our Fortune 500 clients and partners in a small team environment, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the rapidly evolving science and technology of quantitative marketing and fact-based, optimal decision making.

At Sentrana, the lines between R&D, product development, and high-end strategic consulting are blurred - so you'll see the results of your efforts in days or weeks not years. Our heritage is one of entrepreneurship, where individuals' innovative ideas are prized and rapidly reshape the capabilities of large-scale enterprises. Because you'll be at the junction between modeling and client engagement, you will have immediate visibility on the relationship between your efforts and the business value it creates.

Responsibilities

Your primary responsibility in the first year will be to provide analytical support to the modeling team in the following areas:
1. Assessment phase of a potential new client
2. Initial investigation of a new model for an existing client
3. Testing new modeling ideas (R&D)

While your primary role in the first year is performing specific, well-defined analyses in a timely and reliable fashion, you will be given the opportunity, and encouragement, to step beyond analytical roles to develop business acumen as well as top-notch verbal and written communication skills that are essential tools for a business leader. You will be progressively given additional responsibilities such as:
  • Build on results of your initial analyses to recommend the next set of analyses to be performed
  • Draw business-related, actionable insights from your analyses
  • Communicate the results and insights to the Sentrana stakeholders as well as clients

Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree in an applied quantitative field such as physics or engineering.

2. Solid foundation in mathematics and statistics ( grasp of statistical concepts such as probability distributions, correlation, time series, regression, etc).

3. Focus: ability to understand the task given, and execute with efficiency.

4. Common sense: ability to apply judgment and common sense to results of own analysis to avoid foreseeable pitfalls and to catch mistakes

5. Willingness to learn: we don't expect you to know everything upfront, but given your solid foundation, and your motivation to learn, you will acquire the skills needed for each task through reading reference books, research articles, and speaking with senior members of modeling team. Your ability to professionally develop in areas beyond quantitative analysis also critically hinges on your appetite for constructive interaction with fellow Sentrana colleagues and your openness to honest feedback.

6. Willingness to teach: we value our quantitative analysts' willingness and ability to communicate the results of their analyses to other Sentrana stakeholders and even clients. If you demonstrate an interest in the art of teaching and communication, we will teach you how to teach!

Why is Sentrana different?

Your exposure to a uniquely broad mix of talents within the firm: from world-renowned researchers and professors in quantitative marketing to former medalists in physics and computer science Olympiads, to former investment bankers and consultants from Goldman Sachs, McKinsey & Co, and Booz Allen. Without question, Sentrana represents the best of the best.

BS degree? Just shot 'em an email. Interesting that they put you under the PhDs and such to learn. I'm liking their philosophy, but Washington DC seems extremely unexpected for a quant shop.
