long term career prospects in the credit card industry?

I have an offer in risk management from a major credit card firm and another in fixed income portfolio analytics from one of the largest asset management firms. While I had almost certainly decided to accept the offer from the credit card company, I have lately been hearing that it is almost impossible to switch back to mainstream finance from a credit card company. I was wondering if anybody could provide further insights into it? Also, if anybody has an experience in the credit card industry, I would like to know if the work gets mundane/dull in the long term?

To provide further information, the position offered at the credit card firm is that of a manager with a considerable higher starting salary compared to the asset management firm where I would be an analyst. Thank You. ( and a Happy Diwali to everybody!)
