I'm currently a junior, and I've hit that point where I've begun to leverage my options in the future. I'm studying astrophysics at a non-target school for finance but a well-known school in the physics community. Additionally, I've begun research work with a team on a NASA mission to gather some practical experience. Until now, I've only used Python for programming, and I am curious whether or not I should start teaching myself C++ right away or wait until it is used in whatever future program I might end up in. Also, the GRE terrifies me, so I would love any advice on how to prep for that as well, as it is a requirement for most top programs. Thank you!

Don't be afraid of the GRE. It's one part of the whole package and programs will evaluate your profile holistically (in theory). Just try to get the GRE Q as high as you can. If you are mathematically inclined, it should be easy.
I would say get the C++ certificate out of the way so you can build up a portfolio of projects in your github. Having idone early will open doors for you as firms will scan for those keywords.
@Leggoo MFE has gone through the whole applications process recently so you can look at his recent posts for a blueprint.
@grxthy is also going through a study plan for Fall 2026. The early you get on this, the better.
