I had applied to few top MFE programs this year but couldn’t get any admits. The only one I got was waitlisted by Berkeley last year but couldn’t complete the prerequisite courses due to personal reason. A bit about my background: I am an Indian student who completed a B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from one of the top 3 IITs in India. Currently, I work as a desk strat at a bulge bracket (BB) bank.
I have good to decent grades in all the prerequisite mathematics and computer science courses, except for Linear Algebra. To compensate, I recently completed the ‘Elementary to Advanced Linear Algebra certification by Johns Hopkins University, but I am unsure if that's sufficient.
My CPI is 8.5/10, which converts to a 3.64 GPA using an online converter. I know it’s not the best, but I am determined to strengthen my application in other ways. I am aiming to get into one of the top 3-4 MFE programs next year, and I would appreciate your advice on how to enhance my profile what additional courses I should take, whether appearing for CFA Level 2 (which I’ve already registered for) would help, and any other steps I should consider. I know my application wasn’t top-notch this time, and I want to learn from my mistakes to be better prepared for the next cycle.
Your guidance would be really valuable in helping me move forward.
