Need help in applyin for univ

I have a score of 800 in quants and a 540 in my verbal section.My only drawback is my awa in which i have scored 3.5 .Can i giv a shot at univ like NYU and Baruch?I also hav a decent record in my courses related to maths & C++.I'm from a technical background.
