Hi everyone,

I’m a recent graduate with a double major in Economics (BA) + International Business (BBA) from top 3 university in Taiwan. Currently preparing to apply to various MFE programs. I’d really appreciate any insights or advice on my profile and path so far.

GPA: 3.65, GRE: Q170 V160 AWA3.5

Relevant courses I took in university
  • Calculus I, II
  • Theory of Probability
  • Mathematical Statistics
  • Linear Algebra
  • Programming (Python)
  • Financial econometrics with Python
  • Econometrics I, II
  • Stochastics
I had 3 internships, two of which were in asset management, but none were quant-related, they mainly involved automation using Excel macros.
Currently, I’m working at an asset management firm as a research assistant, where I build models for portfolio optimization.
Additionally, I enrolled in a C++ course here, but I won’t be able to finish it before the application deadline.

My top tier target Programs are Cornell and GA Tech, also applying UIUC, UCLA and BU
Based on my profile, how do you think I stand a chance for these programs? I understand coding and work experience may be the weakest points of my profile.
What other programs would you suggest?

Thank you all in advance!

Based on the latest acceptance rates (fall 2026) for these programs, I would say you can get in BU (80%) and UIUC (50%).
Are you sure you enrolled in the QuantNet C++ course here? It would be a great way to strengthen your programming credentials and improve admission chance.
Maybe broaden your pool to NCSU, Rutgers, Tandon.
