Dear All:

I have been admitted to Columbia MSOR and am in NYU Poly MFE application process. I don't know which program is better for me.

Some background: I am Colombian and plan to work in Colombia after finishing my studies. I am an Industrial Engineer but have been working in financial risk management for 4 years and quantitatrive finance is where I want to specialize (the MSOR offers that possibility), although becoming a quant is not my passion (I just want to gain deeper knowldge in finance to improve financial risk management and the investment process over all in the insurance company I currently work for).

I think Columbia is better than NYU, but I am not sure if being an industrial engineer with an MSOR can be misleading about my true specialization which is finance.

Whan would you recommend for me?

Thanks in advance!!

If you have worked in finance then your curriculum will probably speak for you. If I was in your position I would enter the program in which I would learn the most of what I want to do for living.

You want to learn more about investments and risk management and you are deciding between MS operation research vs MS Financial and Risk Engineering. If I were you I would go for NYU MFE. Sure both programs have theoretical courses such as stochastic modeling, but MFE definitely has more practical risk management and investment courses to choose from. It seems to me that NYU's MFE program covers all the aspects of MSOR and more.
