I have admits from both NCSU and NYU Tandon and while I'm waiting for other admits, I need to make a decision between these two by 28th Feb. From my research, it seems NCSU is superior academically but NYU benefits from industry faculty and NYC location. I want to work in quantitative portfolio management but I don't have relevant work ex. I would also like to know how the NYU Tandon 4 semester program compares with other 3 semester programs. It would be very helpful if people who have experience with these programs could give their advice.

On lighter note, Just for fun : Don't take it seriously ||
Using my quant skill 100% 😬
A,B, C, ..... S,T,U,V,W,X,Y,Z

A=1
so C=3
S= 18
V=21
C+S = 21
Y = 25
so
Y>CS
NYU>NCSU

I would say that NYU is more "investment" and NCSU is more "banking". If you want to work in portfolio management, perhaps the latter is better

Hi folks, I'd really appreciate some input on choosing between these two programs.

'NYU Tandon vs NCSU' was merged into this thread.
I wonder which is better?

@ChristineCC Have you received offers from all three programs? I believe UCLA and Tandon are a tier above NCSU. As to which program to choose from the two, a lot depends on your priorities. UCLA places a lot of people in Asset management especially in the LA /Orange County /SF region. So if you like good weather it's a great choice. However if it's the east coast you want to be on, UCLA has a full time consultant based out of New York who has extensive contacts in NYC and help with placements there. I believe academically both programs are similar, however UCLA has Fixed Income legend Francis Longstaff and a new derivatives professor Eric Reiner (who is also the new faculty director) who has worked for years on derivates on Wall Street and a very proactive program management team.

I got admission to these two programs. Now I need to make decisions by May 1st.
Also, are Gatech QCF and Columbia MFE worth waiting for? I did not get the decisions from them.

NYU:
[pros]
1. in nyc
2. more famous school
[cons]
1. much more cost (tuition and living cost)
2. large cohort size

NCSU:
[pros]
1. 100% placement rate
2. low cost
3. near Charlotte
[cons]
1. less famous school

In the same fix.
Anymore insights from those who picked either of these universities?

idk anything about tandon and i don't go to NCSU but I did speak with their director back in december, very risk management focused in job prospects, and good course selection. They're willing to be flexible for individual students needs, ie if you want to do PhD preparation they can waive the professional development stuff for you in favour of letting you take a PhD course or two. They don't expect as much of a background as programs of similar level, and are cheaper for sure.

Thanks @blrichard for the response.
I am more confused because apart from peer score, NCSU tops NYU Tandon in median salary and percentage of placed students.
