There is no such program called QUANT in university, and I really get confused by what does QUANT mean and what does a QUANT do in his/her real work.
After googling and viewing quantnet, in my very limited opinion, there are two types of quant--p-quant and q-quant.
In my very limited opinion, q-quant 's job is pricing. My question is: What kind of knowledge does a q-quant have to have in order prepare for their job? Stochastic calculus? PDE? Besides, what kind of phd does a q-quant usually hold? Applied math?
Also, what is p-quant? What do they do in real jobs? What skills do they use in real work? Time series analysis?
What degree do they usually hold? Statistics phd?
Besides, it looks like data science, machine learning and statistical learning (I am not sure whether or not they are the same thing) is a hot topic now. Do they have application in quantitative finance?
Any word will be appreciated, thank you in advance.
