Hi experts,
I am new to quantnet. I would like to have my profile evaluated in general :
Education:
Bachelor in Engineering from VCET, Mumbai University, India (Information Technology)
CGPA - 6.7/10
Academic Achievements - Secured first class throughout my academic career.
Math Background -
Applied Math-I - 1) Complex Variable (2) Laplace Transform (3) Fourier Series (4) Discrete Structures (5) Z-transform
Applied Math-II - 1) Complex Integration 2) Matrices, eigen-values and eigen-vectors 3) Probability & Statistics 4) Mathematical Programming
GMAT
Yet to take GMAT in March '15
Work Experience:
I began my career with Tata Consultancy Services(TCS) - an IT services firm. I worked as a mainframe software developer in the Insurance domain, for AXA's life insurance software. I was involved in requirements elicitation, technical design, build, test and deployments. I worked as a team leader with iGate Computers, where I worked with a team of five on enhancements/maintainance to Metlife's annuity policies administration system. I presently work at BNY Mellon, as a senior mainframe programmer/analyst for their money market funds and custody services systems. I was the winner of the Mainframe COE(Center Of Excellence) quiz contest in my organization. I am a diligent worker.
I have a flair for writing. I run a blog www(dot)mainframes360(dot)com, that talks about the best practices in mainframe programming - it is on the top 10 list in Google for the keyword 'Mainframes'. I have self-published a book called "What on Earth is a Mainframe?". I find teaching very fulfilling. I have conducted a number of corporate trainings on mainframe tools/services.
I am inclined towards financial math, investment science and am determined to make a career in the investment industry. I am a CFA Level-I candidate. I self-learn when time permits. I regularly visit Coursera and I have completed R programming and Mathematical primer courses there.
To-Do list
Plan to self-study linear analysis, ODE as a preparation.
Post Masters goal:
I would like to pursue a career in the financial services sector. To narrow it down, I am looking at roles like Equity research analyst, derivative analyst, portfolio management roles etc.
Questions
1. I would like to pursue a masters in Finance. Would good schools even consider my application, given the fact that I already have five years of work-experience (whilst I know that the average work-ex in this programme is 0-2). Given my background and work-experience, do you think an MSFin. is the right program for me?
2. How about tuition fee waivers? Do good universities offer a full/partial tution fee waiver on MSFin. courses?
3. How do I short-list the schools that offer MS. Fin/MSFE?
4. Should I consider a two-year MBA program?
