Hi:

I am currently a finance major student. I am deciding between double in a computer science major or a minor of Computer science at UIUC. I just want to know if programming classes like system programming and computer architecture really useful in financial engineering? If I don't do computer science major, I will double at Math major and minor in CS.

Thanks!

May not be "useful" in the sense that you wouldn't be using systems programming in the program or in most jobs (some do) but it is always a good idea to spend a few classes close to the machine.

In business and industry, the focus is on being a good programmer/developer (engineering approach). The stuff you learn in CS is good (maybe) to know but in practice will not prepare for real life projects. It can be a culture shock.

I think learning maths >> CS.

You learn by doing and it takes 5,10,15,20 ... years to learn :)

In general, universities don't teach 'programming'.
