Quant departments

Hey everybody,

I am new in here, and seeking for a career as a quant. The question for the beginning? I should do my internship begining february. How do you distinguish which financial institutions do have quant departament and which don't? What advice would you give, for the begining of the search for the place of internship?
I realy do want to learn smth new during my internship as a quant. The name of the company is not important for me as long as there is a learning environment. For those who already did their internships, to what companies (small or big, maybe some other aspects of the company) is it easier to get in as an intern?

You will always learn something new in your internship regardless of the place, position. The idea of quant department is vague; you can end up doing nothing relevant in a quanty place.
The meter should be how much programming you do at a place.
The best advice I can give is to seek out current and formers employees, interns at those places and contact them. There are countless social networking sites you can do a search to link them up.
