Hi,

In a few months (february), I'll have to find a quant internship. I could apply here, in France, but I would be more interested in such a position in the US or UK.

The fact is that I don't know how to proceed: are those positions advertised ? Is there an interview and do you think I will have to travel to NYC for instance just for this interview ?

Thanks a lot,
Olivier

Another route is if you make a list of companies in which you're interested, they will have an application or listing for positions on their website.

They will almost certainly have an interview.

Thanks IlyaKEightSix and Doug for your advices.

I have heard about phone interview, maybe it is a possibility.

A phone interview will likely be the first step. However, that doesn't exclude the possibility of an in-person interview further along in the process.

Frankly, amid this crisis I think you will find it hard to get any willing employer to fly you across the continental for an internship interview. This is not 2005 anymore.
The few that hiring would look into local pool. This is evident by the reports coming out of the west coast programs (UCB, etc) that there are fewer interview offers coming from NYC. This is a time when location advantage is paramount.

Before you get to fly to NYC, you would have to pass phone interviews, interviews at their local branch. In general, they are not likely to go through expense approval for intern or entry level positions.
That said, you don't know until you try so just go to the websites and hit them up.

Thanks for your reply Andy.

I have to admit that it was exactly what i feared ! Anyway, I will try with perseverance.
But at least, having this in mind I will not only focus on NYC, but also on London and Paris.
