Hello all,

New to the Qnet (new to posting, at least).

I'm well aware of the Temple MFE's lack of prestige within the Qnet community, but am asking for advice on attending it despite that.

I was admitted to this program and am still waiting to hear back from a handful of others.

Bio/Current Situation:
American
Industrial Eng. undergrad (grad may 2013)
2 years manufacturing engineering intern
1 year FT with major electrical manufacturer in front office role
Want to transition into professional services/financial services and need a crash course in finance
Great verbal/comm skills

I have a good job at the moment, but the career trajectory isn't appealing and I feel better suited for a career in financial services, but have no background in finance. I'm hoping coursework associated with the Temple (or similar) program will provide me with that and allow me to transition into the financial sector.

I don't need to be on Wall Street or in a high profile, boutique investment firm (obviously wouldn't be anyways coming out of Temple), just want to jump into the sector. Is this realistic coming out of a 1year program in MSFE or MSQCF, despite not having previous work experience in finance. Is it possible coming out of Temple?

Thanks for any advice/information!

It really depends....

Ideally start in a back office role in asset management and move towards front office ie. high net worth wealth advising.........mainly just interface between portfolio managers and clients......have a very strong understand of the mathematics at the foundation of the strategy, but be able to articulate it to the less financially acute

General consulting is also tempting......i know finance is typically the background they look to
