I'm also wait listed
Hi, Yaxiong, sorry to hear that.

Do u know how much is the possibility of getting off the waiting list and receiving an offer in Anderson? Since it's still months from the end of the 3rd round application. R u still interested in this program, or do u have any other alternatives?

Profile ?
Hi, Mr. dineshbacham!

I'm Chinese, an undergra students, with some internships in investment banking and Forex trading, and some research in econometrics...but no working experience make the application really weak...

You've been around this site for quite long, so according to your experience, do u have any suggestions regarding the waitinglist status with my background in UCLA?

Were you on the wait list??? I was put on waitlist on june 30th but I still haven't heard back from them yet...

I was, but only for a few days. I didn't apply until like the last day of May. I want to become a trader after graduation and I'm not sure about the recruitment for traders out of UCLA so I'm not 100% sure if the program is right for me yet. I will be making my decision in the next few weeks.

Yeah me neither.. I submitted my application on May 31st... Did you have any interviews before they took you off the wait list? Do you mind sharing your profile with us? I'm so nervous.. I'm still on the wait list now. I called them earlier today and they said that I have a good chance of getting in, but I'm still anxious about it...

No interviews after being placed on the waitlist, just the one right after I applied. I liked what Ms. Dunn had to say, but I'm hoping to hear from some students/graduates. My programming/work experience are mediocre compared to many which is probably why I got wait listed (no C++ yet). I wouldn't be surprised if being an American citizen helped my case.

Profile:
Domestic Student
MS Mathematics (finishing up now) 3.96 GPA (mediocre private school)
BA Economics 3.64 GPA (top 20 public school)
GRE: 790Q/450V/4.0AWA
Programming Experience: VBA, some SQL & R, taking Matlab Fundamentals course
Work Experience: 2 years as a Proprietary Equities Trader (use own capital, Series 56 licensed)

I see that you have a really good profile there.. I don't have any full-time work experiences and I just graduated from USC with Industrial & Systems Engineering major.. Anyways, thanks for sharing your profile! I will let you know what happens next. Hopefully, I will get in...

Just got an email saying we have until Monday to sign up for the pre-prep courses so I'll make a decision by then. This is probably my toughest decision yet in life. To take the offer or to try for jobs or possibly schools with better access to Wall Street? That is the million dollar question.

Decide wisely. I'm still on the waitlist and hopefully I'm allowed to take your spot if you're not going :P

After careful consideration of my options I have decided to attend. If I were admitted to other programs, would this be my first choice? No. However, I'm not sure I could strengthen my application enough to get into the other programs. Sure I could improve my GRE scores a little bit and maybe take/pass the CFA L1, but my work experience isn't that strong and I've never attended a top school. Then even if I got into a slightly better school, how much would it help me? I'm opting for security. My goal is to break into trading like almost everybody else, but worst comes to worst I get a cozy risk management job in sunny California and perhaps one day will break into trading from there. I believe the curriculum covers a very broad range of financial topics which could be beneficial and I get the impression that career services really cares and is there to work with you and help you succeed if you're willing to work yourself. Nothing will fall in your lap. I will be aggressively looking for summer internship opportunities over the next few months. Good luck to everybody else!

The average age at UCLA MFE program is suggested to be 26. Does this rule out kids like me with a strong 2 -2.5 year Work Experience?
