Undergraduate student apply for phd of finance or FE

I'm an international undergraduate student from Asia major in finance engineering. I want to apply for financial engineering program in USA . I am wondering that if it is possible to apply for finance or FE Phd directly? I heard that in other fields like EE can do that. Can someone give me some advices or some successful cases?
