Which Educational Route Should I Take?

Hello all,

I just wanted some advice on which route I should take for the coming years, my goal is to become a quant trader at a Prop Shop. Looking to apply for Fall 2027 term and hopefully get into a Top program.

Route 1:
Major in Economics Business Analytics Track (non target Florida school)
Minor in Math (non target Florida school)

Quant Net C++ Course

Baruch Pre-MFE Courses assuming I get admitted
Probability Theory for Financial Engineering
Numerical Linear Algebra for Financial Engineering
Advanced Calculus for Financial Engineering

Route 2:
Major in Economics Business Analytics Track (non target Florida school)
Major in Mathematical Economics (non target Florida school)

Quant Net C++ Course

Why not major in a strong STEM degree like CS/Math/Stats and do all the QuantNet C++ and the pre-MFE courses?

Hi Andy, I’m deep into the economics degree already and if I restart i’ll lose a year and a half. I was thinking getting a minor would help…

You can then load up on all the math courses while getting your economics degree. An extra math course a semester or so will help. All the math courses (stochastic, probability, measure theory, etc) would help make your life easier during the MFE study.
