I'd like to start my program in Fall, i.e. late August. Apparently MIT and Columbia both have mandatory summer terms, information about others programs are missing, such as Cornell, NYU, Chicago...

Can someone please cast some light on this issue?

Most programs follow a Fall start schedule. Programs that are one year long has that unusual start date. UCB MFE starts in March. UCLA MFE starts in Jan.
Baruch MFE has summer refresher courses for incoming students that start in June. Other programs offer summer refreshers courses but are optional.
Just keep in mind that majority of programs start in late Aug.

Chicago also starts in the fall without a summer term. You can find this info on their website.

Many thanks to all of you guys! Iguess many programs do not put their starting date in an conspicuous place simply because starting in fall is nothing remarkable.
