Greetings all,
I thought to come by this forum and drop a line.
Is a typical quant trader expected to have knowledge of areas such as FPGA programming, low-latency networking, signal processing, and Linux kernel development, or is it mostly reserved to quant developers?

Thanks.

In general, I would say that most 'quant developer' don't have this knowledge. It's not something you can learn by osmosis.

'Expecting' someone to have this knowledge is another issue..

big firms have software and hardware engineers takes care of these. the exception is signal processing, as quants use them directly.
