Obviously, I'm sure they matter, but does anyone have any idea on how?

More specifically does anyone know if earlier or later rounds yield better chances of acceptance?

Interesting, is there any reason for that? I mean I keep thinking the people who apply earlier would generally be more organized and hard working, as opposed to someone who waited (perhaps procrastinated more than otherwise) until another round. So maybe it's a situation where there's a stronger applicant pool, but just way more slots given out?

There is generally less competition. By the time the 3rd round comes most of the places are already filled in and u are fighting for those very few left with a lot of people ;)

I could not get my application my application to CMU for Round 1 and will get it there on Round 2. Lets see how it goes. But yes Round 3 is the hardest. I think Round 2 still is ok. (of course i am biased)

For whatever reason, people seem to wait until the last minutes to apply. Leave yourself a lot of room so that if something is missing, you can send them in. When the programs are close to filling their class quota, they are less likely to be generous with applicants.

most programs evaluate on a rolling base, which indicates that, someone apply earlier than you with similar background would be considered prior to you

I am not sure about "most". I only know of Baruch among the top programs which does that

I am not sure how much it *helps* to apply early in terms of getting admission offer... but at places where they have rolling application procedure, you are probably better off applying early. As a bonus, you will not have to wait until the last minute to know of your choices...

At CMU, I think (not sure) round 2 is the largest pool ...

However, if you think waiting a little longer will help you have a *much* stronger application, you can apply late... not at the last moment tho! ;)

It's been ~2 years since I filled out my application... plenty of time for things to change. Just double checking.
