Hello everyone,

I'm reaching out to gather some insights and honest feedback on the BU MSMFT program. I've been exploring various sources for information and noticed a discrepancy between the job placement statistics reported by Boston University on their official website and the data shared in emails directly from the program, as compared to figures provided by QuantNet.

Could anyone share their recent experiences with the BU MSMFT program or offer any clarity on how accurate the job placement percentages presented by QuantNet are? Any personal anecdotes or factual clarifications would be greatly appreciated as I navigate through my decision-making process.

Thank you in advance for your assistance and for sharing your valuable perspectives.

I’m also curious too. Idk which employment statistics data I should rely on 🙉

I can’t speak to the stats. But I can speak about BU.

I have a CS degree from BU and work in algorithmic trading. BU is a great school and has a better reputation (if you ask me) than the QN rankings indicate.

I work for one of the companies listed on BUs official site and am routinely invited to interview for many of the firms on the list as well.

But keep in mind I have a CS degree and not an MSMFT

I'm currently a student in the Boston University MSMFT program, and I'd like to share some insights that might help address the question regarding job placements and the overall experience.

First off, I find the MSMFT program to be quite strong, especially in terms of the faculty. The professors are highly knowledgeable, and their dedication is apparent in every course. In particular, Professor Hao Xing, who teaches "Foundations of Finance" and "Applications of Machine Learning," is truly outstanding and supportive.

That said, like many graduate programs at BU, the grading can be quite rigorous, and the coursework is challenging—especially classes taught by professors Eric and Jerome, which have a steep learning curve. It's worth noting that these courses can be demanding in terms of mathematics, and some students may struggle to pass.

Regarding job placement, it's true that a significant portion of the cohort consists of international students, particularly from China. For those without a green card or U.S. citizenship, it can be challenging to secure positions in the U.S. Many international students opt to return to China for employment after graduation. However, despite the challenging financial environment since COVID-19, approximately a third of the graduates still manage to stay in the U.S. and find work, which reflects the program's overall capability to prepare students well for the job market.

Hope this helps in clarifying some of the questions about the BU MSMFT program!
