I'm about to complete my PhD in computer science, with ample experience in Machine Learning, and would like to join as a quant (algorithmic trading or risk etc.) in the finance industry. Based on what I've seen, there are many jobs that require the skillset I have in and around the London area. Now I've heard a lot about how finance industries prefer top universities for quant positions. I'm from a University that ranks roughly around 10th in the UK. I'm wondering if this is going to be a major problem in getting interviews for quant positions. Is there anything I can do to get around this handicap?

NO. Nobody cares about the ranking

Agreed with @pingu

It is more important to build your skills and knowledge in Algo domain (including some knowledge of different strategy paradigms in this space).

BTW, we are looking for people like you! Please ping me on chat if you are looking to start something part time.
