Hope this is in time.

I would suggest to go for MSOR.

1. The courses are very closely linked to finance. it is not about operations but you can choose derivative pricing, corporate finance and many more. MAFN columbia courses sound like math/qaunt learning to someone who already knows finance.

2. seems like MSOR has a better and stable faculty whereas MAFN courses faculty is to be announced.

Frankly, Columbia does not need to disclose or keep track of the stats because students are going to apply and attend anyway, there is no need for the marketing.

Do you know why Columbia MFE started putting up internship/placement info only last year?
Because it's one of the most often asked questions by prospective students.

Do you also notice that the career information for MFE program is more comprehensive than MSOR (relatively)?
Let's not underestimate what the students can do collectively. If we advocate that MFE programs should be more transparent and forthcoming with their information, and we keep beating that drum like we have been doing, you should start seeing more and more programs putting up these info.

I'm very convinced that together, we can make some positive changes in how the flow of information is shifted.

That is awesome to hear! I do hope as more and more applicants ask for the info, the stats will become more transparent. But my point was simply that the bigger programs have less incentive to disclose/keep track of stats versus others. However, that can change if applicants # start slipping.

But going back to the topic, I don't see a huge difference between MSOR and MAFN (given MSOR is allowed to take the necessary "quant" courses).

Man .. this thread is scary. Is there any current MAFN student on this forum? I guess listening to some student first hand at least will clear few things. Also from my personal experience, some very good colleges have bad websites (read un-updated/and use nothing other than basic html).

One thing I notice is that most vocal reviews are from domestic/white students who have an easier time getting jobs. While majority of students in these programs are international students from Asia, you will not likely hear anything bad from them.

If any admitted students who have contacted MAFN alum recently, please convince them to put out an anonymous review on Quantnet. It's impossible to form a complete view by reading just 2 reviews.

Do you know if the reviewer is a 2011 graduate of the program? Or an alum from a previous year?

Since waiting was killing me softly, I wrote them an email to know if something was up, here is what they responded:
"The department has not yet made a decision on your application. We will notify you via email when the decision is made, but that may not occur until the end of April."

So, i guess, waiting is not over yet...

I have heard a hypothese that for most programs if someone is not admitted before the 15-th of April, he/she is actually waitlisted

Basically, I've applied in late February, since I had to wait for my GRE exams. And I've received THE letter on March, 29th.
