Hi, I'm currently considering to apply for a MFE in HKUST / NTU / NUS.

I would like to ask on the career prospects as a front office quant related roles (research / dev)

correct me if im wrong, is this facts still exist that CURRENTLY front office firms are larger in HK compared to SG?

while SG are mainly still focus on middle/ back office roles (IT).

Thanks!

Hong Kong currently has more front office quant roles than Singapore. However, there has been a bit of a shift in recent years away from Hong Kong to Singapore driven by the Hong Kong governments Covid policy and the growing CCP influence. There are quite a few international trading firms in Singapore but I am not familiar with the landscape at the banks. Either way, I am not convinced that you wouldn't be better off doing an MFE at one of the global leading programs as opposed to at the local school in order to maximize your chances. I work as an options quant at a trading firm which has offices in these locations. However, looking at our current intern cohort a large part of the trading and quant interns are studying in the US or Europe.
