Hello,

Are there funds with a similar reputation for math and problem solving like D.E. Shaw and Renaissance Technology, as opposed to traditional quant school and heavy finance?

Are there people on these boards who have interviewed with either of the two aforementioned firms? Could you share as much of the experience as possible: your background, how you applied, the type of position, what the interview was like, and the result. Thoughts?

I've read the older postings on D.E. Shaw questions, Mensa-like math problems. I appreciate the value of this type of interview. Web and forum searches suggest that the starting salary at D.E. Shaw is about $120k.

Like many, I'm very interested in working for a company like these two, and am preparing myself for applying in the future. Looking for any and all information and appreciate all your help.

Check for this on Glassdoor and alike sites - you'll find plenty of employees reviews, and salary and interview information.
