How do you explain your job to your family?

I’m about to go to some family holiday parties for the first time in a few years and I’m lucky enough to have gotten a job - it just occurred to me that I’m going to have to explain to random family members (not in the industry) what a quant is about 25 times in the next few weeks.

What are some of your favorite one liners / ways to briefly describe what you do in a non-technical way?

I used to say that I build programs for a trading desk on Wall Street. Or dumb it down further and say you work for a financial firm to help them make money. You can expand if the audience is genuinely interested.
