How is postdoc experience viewed?

Hi all,

I've recently completed a PhD in physics and am contemplating a career as a quant. Would having 1-2 years experience as a physics postdoc generally be considered an asset or a liability for a quant role, or roles in financial institutions in general?

Cheers.

Would like to resurrect this thread as I am interested in this questions as well. I am also curious as to how someone with postdoctoral experience can make the transition to finance... for instance, are internships out of the question? Is it common for STEM postdocs to transfer directly into analyst or researcher roles?
