I’m fresh out of undergrad this summer and planning to apply this year for the next year's intake (2026) for MFE/MSCF/MFin programs, with my top choice being Baruch. I’ll also be applying to UChicago, GA Tech, MIT, among others. I’d love to get the community’s thoughts on how competitive my profile looks and what I should focus on improving.
My background:
• Education:
• Undergrad in Economics, GPA 3.98/4, top Bangladeshi university.
• Relevant courses: Multivariable Calculus, Probability, Econometrics, Real Analysis, Time Series Analysis, Game Theory, Numerical Methods, Operations Research, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra. Also took the graduate microeconomics class offered at my uni while still in undergrad. Scored As in all of these other B+ in both real analysis and time series.
• I plan to take the GRE and will obviously aim for 170Q, but I may not retake it if I already get 167Q.
• Work experience:
• TA for intermediate microeconomics (2 years).
• Current role: RA for a research project on options pricing and ambiguity (6 months).
• Work involves running simulations in Python and Stata, analyzing stock prices and pricing models.
• Technical skills:
• Stata (used heavily in my work and studies)
• Python basics
• Currently taking Beginning C++ Programming - From Beginner to Beyond (Buchalka and Dr Frank Mitropoulos – Udemy) to build up my C++ skills, since it’s often listed as a requirement for MFEs, particularly for Baruch.
Target Programs:
• Top priorities: Baruch, MIT, UChicago
• Also applying to: GA Tech, CMU, UIUC, Rutgers, UWashington

Questions for the community:
- Based on my profile, how do you think I stand a chance for these programs? I understand coding and work experience may be the weakest points of my profile. What other programs would you suggest?
- Are there specific areas I should strengthen before applying (e.g., math prep, coding depth, research/publications)?
- For Baruch specifically, how should I approach preparing for the QBA?
- Any other tips from people who’ve gone through these admissions processes?
