Hi all,

I’m applying to MIT MFin and wanted advice on how to fill the section that asks you to list your university courses in probability, statistics, linear algebra and multivariable calculus..

I study Physics (B.Sc. Hons) at a TOP UK Uni. My transcript doesn’t literally include courses titled “Probability” or “Statistics,” but my modules fully cover the quantitative prerequisites — for example:
Statistical Mechanics → probability distributions, expectation values, Gaussian and Poisson processes, Monte Carlo methods
Mathematical Methods→ linear algebra, multivariable calculus, differential equations, complex analysis
Laboratory Modules→ regression, uncertainty propagation, χ² tests
Quantum Mechanics I & II → eigenvalue problems, probabilistic interpretation of amplitudes

Has anyone here (especially physics or engineering majors) applied successfully to MIT MFin or similar quant programs?

How did you phrase or group your modules to clearly satisfy the “probability / statistics / linear algebra / calculus” prerequisites and how did you fill in the "What percent of the course was devoted to this subject" section?
Did you simply list course names, or did you describe equivalences (e.g., “Statistical Mechanics – equivalent to advanced probability”)?

Any examples or feedback would be hugely appreciated — I just want to make sure the admissions team recognises that my pure physics degree ticks all the boxes, but I think I might be overthinking into this.

yh think you might be over thinking abit here bud. everyone knows phys is quantitative enough. the way youve written here is fine. try find out what the admissions teams are actually after i.e. weight of applied knowledge vs theoretical/proof type knowledge. i would expect phys to be fairly applied but still having a good amount of rigour/analysis so find ways to highlight both depending on what they want.

Maybe have a paragraph in your statement that youve actually covered the pre req and how. but i wouldnt spend too much time on that
