I thought with all the changes happening due to CECL, I might be in a position to transition from quant development work in mortgage finance to a proper quant role. So I went and got an MFE from a respectable but not top place. But now that I’m job hunting it seems like maybe the pay for quant jobs is actually worse than I was getting tech side, and particularly bad for any position with “risk” in the title.

Do quant jobs all put you in the the same trap you see with model validation: not well paid or respected? Is there career advancement and pay increases or are you siloed and hit a low ceiling with pay? Any other recommendations for a guy who has been around behavior models and cash flow waterfalls for years?
