Is Quantlib a good project to work on for beginners to quant finance?

I have some experience using C++ and am interested in quantitative finance. I heard contributing to Quantlib could look very good on my resume. I have downloaded it. However, I now don't even know where to start. I have almost no knowledge of quantitative finance. The online documentation for it is also confusing

Anyone know of any books, tutorials, whatever can explain how this works without assuming the user has strong C++ or quantitative finance knowledge? Or am I better off learning something else with my spare time?
