Java and software for plotting graphs

I want to plot the results obtained from Java into a graph. I've heard about software such as Octave, Matlab, gnuplot, Mathematica and so much more which only confuses me more. What are their differences and which one of these can I integrate with Java? (or if there are any other software I've missed out) I need clarification! Thanks.

if you want to plot something from java use JFreeChart. http://www.jfree.org/jfreechart/

You can also use python (reading from a csv or from the stdIO) http://matplotlib.sourceforge.net/
