What sort of long term career potential is there for someone who starts out as a research quant after their PhD? (If it helps, my PhD is in pure math, and I have a strong background in econ from undergrad.) What roles can a quant grow into, and where have quants ended up after 10 or 20 (even 30) years? Is there a typical career progression?

Any information is appreciated. (I have found lots of material on this forum and online for how to start out as a quant, especially the excellent guide and general comments of Dominic Connor, but I haven't found much about what experienced quants do, and what the market is like for quants with more experience or seniority.)

Thank you!
