I know very few people here are applying to mba programs, but i wonder at schools with both mba and mfin/mfe programs, is there a lot of competition between the students for finance jobs? Although the 2 programs attract different types of students, i would think they would both be going for a lot of the buyside investment management jobs as well as some trading jobs at banks. Obviously prop trading will be left to mfin/mfe. Specifically, do mfin/mfe students have access to on-campus recruiting that is totally separate from the business school? And at schools such as berkeley, ucla, cornell, nyu, the mfin/mfe is more "prestigious" while at stanford, uchicago, columbia, mit, the opposite is true. So I wonder if that affect recruiting dynamics as well.

I wouldn't say that MFin programs are more prestigious at all. They have different uses and different people go into them. Financial Engineering students aren't really competing with NYU Stern MBA's. Both can coexist without issue.
