Hello guys. I am new to the forum and to the whole quant field. While looking through other posts i found the following link by a member about placement from Berkeley

http://mfe.berkeley.edu/careers/placement.html

Can someone shed some light on the various job functions?

Especially i am not sure about the Strategies and Research?

What kind of strategies and research is being talked about here? I assume the research is to make new models or is it something different and more wider?

Not only those, but in fields you didn't think they went. Google hires quants to do really heavy lifting on its online advertising and search algos through tons of stats analysis. And currently, I'm working as some sort of quant data munging for a VC insights startup.

Remember what the origin of the term "quant" was--it was an insult to deride scientific people in previously unscientific fields. Quants can go in very very many places. Use your imagination, and call yourself a quant if it's not a previously quanty field.
