NTU - Nanyang MFE 2012

Hello Purnima, I had the interview today... brief and casual table talk... here's what they asked:

Q1) How did you find out about our program?
Q2) Have you arranged the required funds?
Q3) My background in Math and Computer (maybe because I am a Finance graduate)
Q4) My queries if any...

Thanks a tonne!! :) My interview is tomorrow. Hopefully it'll be smooth!

I was interviewed by the Program Director Dr. Keshab Shrestha

I have had the interview yesterday. Casual talk. Ask about something regards your GRE score, your favorite courses in finance and mathematics, your interest to their program, etc. Prof. Shretsha is very nice indeed.

Hi All,

I have applied for Part-time NUS MFE course. But I haven't still got any interview call. May I know from people who have got the interview calls whether they are part-time or full-time applicants?

thanks
Preeti

hey all,

i've accepted NUS' admission offer for the full time mfe program. are there any scholarships i can apply for now (especially the rmi scholarship)? i had applied to ntu's program as well, but decided against going there.

They have given out the scholarship already. Since almost every applicant applies for their scholarship (We don't need to do extra stuff but only click a button at their admission system), therefore if someone don't receive any response from them that means not considered.

Any particular reason for going against Nanyang ?? Did you research about placements stuff at Singapore?

i'm really bad at programming (i majored in chemical engineering for my undergraduate degree), which is probably the main reason i chose NUS. as far as placements go, i haven't been able to find any concrete data (maybe i'm not looking hard enough), unlike the indian institutions which provide detailed information.

hmmm, i have searched but didn't recv a good scenario. actually i got a mixed scenario.. it would be good if u can also search and let me know.

hey sid.. i got admit in NUS too.. Prof. Shreshtha said he wont be able to give any scholarship. I think you dont need to apply separately for it. My mail id is adityacs007@gmail.com... I am a chemical engineer too from IIT Madras with 3 years software background.. Care to share your profile with me? I got admit in few US insti's too but they are costly and singapore seems like a better option... any idea on the placements after MFE?

Plus NUS has changed the course and have now included Stochastic Calculus and quite a good amount of quant... This is gr8 news.. Prof Shreshtha is himself from NTU and came to NUS recently.. he might have aligned the courses accordingly..

Hi guys. I got an admit too for the full time MFE course at NUS. And I am keen on joining it.
But I need more information regarding the placements? I can't make a final decision before I get all the stats. Any help?

We did survey the NUS MFE program several months ago but unfortunately, they report placement stats as "not available". They probably don't track it so I doubt you will see any official stats elsewhere.
On the other hand, they report 25% acceptance rate for their applicants with a class size of 80-100 for PT and FT. About 400 applicants applied last year.

Saw a couple of admitted candidates ask this question on NUS MFE's facebook page... no reply from their usually responsive admin. I would give a call to the program manager, Kenneth Cheong about your concerns about placement and how it affects your decision. Obviously, he can't give an official position but you might get just enough to make up your mind. I found him pretty friendly.

Which is which?

fewkb ...which of the NUS and NTU may be better according to you if a student were to be admitted by both?
