Number of words to learn for GRE?

Its like saying the US has reduced its debt to zero. That was the most outrageous claim ever heard

I scored an 800 verbal on the GRE without studying for it. If you're well-read, you will probably be okay. If not, re-take it.

If you miss a word on the GRE vocab, it's probably a word that should never be used anyway.

That's because most GRE words ARE useless. I got a 700, but had a head-start prepping for the SATs earlier in life. The words for GRE that go beyond the SAT are useless.

It's just another stupid American test, another worthless hurdle, another bureaucratic ring of fire to jump through. What's the use of knowing the meaning of a large number of abstruse words if they aren't part of everyday discourse? How many college-educated Americans use words like "dross" in their talk? A science or engineering grad student has to be able to understand everyday English and be able to pick up the specialised lingo of his field. Period. Incidentally, "dross" is an apposite description of this test.
