All,
Would appreciate any opinions and suggestions on my query below:
I have a undergrad and masters degree in economics, currently working in Corporate Treasury in a risk / treasury modelling role. I guess you could call it the equivalent of a middle office role, but modelling activities are split between assessment of funding and liquidity risk, secured funding & treasury trading / cost of carry and transfer pricing.
I am seriously considering taking further study, and as i have a masters, I see little point in completing another masters degree. I do not have the option of quitting work, as i need to self fund study. My longer term career goals are working in a more quantitative role.
I have extensively researched the reputation of the MFE programmes out there, but what are your opinions on a Phd from Birkbeck in math fin? Ideally, the programme would equip me to work either in a very quant focussed risk role, or perhaps as a desk quant. The main benefit of this programme is that, aside from making a distinct contribution to my area of study, is that it will let me work and study at the same time..... but will the qualification and reputation of the institution provide a material boost to my profile?
Many thanks for your time
Indy
