Quant? Analyst? Trader? What do these mean?

Hi. I'm an applied math major. I really hadn't thought of what I wanted to do with my degree after graduating, since I figured that since math is a pretty versatile field of study, it would not be terribly difficult to find a job.

I am more interested in economics and finances. I've heard terms like 'financial analyst' or 'hedge fund traders' in some forums and websites, but don't really know what they mean.

Is there a kind of a FAQ or a website that compares what these people do? Correct me if I'm wrong, but a quant is basically someone who uses his/her mathematical, statistical, and critical thinking abilities combined with programming skills to apply numerical and quantitative methods to problems in areas of finances, right?

Thanks!
