Hi All,

Maybe this question has been asked already on this forum earlier, if yes apologies that I couldn't find it.
Primarily what I am looking for is your opinion / evaluation of whether I am a suitable candidate to pursue a career in Quantitative finance stream. I would like to request this assessment primarily from the stand point of a university who is looking for prospective candidates and an employer. Following is my background in brief

Education:
I am a Telecommunication Engineer by training. My grades in Maths in the first 3 years of my undergraduate studies were not noteworthy. Altough I recovered in the last year and got a First Class (65%) in India. I completed my studies in the year 2000.

Career:
Since year 2000 I have been working in IT primarily as a C++ programmer. For first 4 years I was working for the tech industry (telecom s/w and information security). For last 6 years I have been working on s/w development in an Investment Bank and in last two years I have been exposed to this field and found it interesting.

The first and foremost question I have for this is, am I too old to start this now ?
Also due to my personal considerations I will not be able to take up a full-time course.
What do you think are my options if any?

Would really appreciate your assessment and opinion on this.
Thanks
P.S.

I think you are still young enough:).

For options, I would suggest you to try to apply for an internal transfer to quant related department in your company. If your quant skills are not strong enough, doing a quant finance related master in India should be good. I am not from India, but I think IIT is an excellent option. Try to publish one or two papers, convince your boss to let you transfer.

I am still an outsider anyway, just my 2 cents worth:)
