Should I go for MFE or not.

I am currently working as a developer in high frequency firm and have an opportunity to join as a software developer in a Prop trading team . I had applied for MFE last year and had beeb waitlististed from couple of institutes, but it did not get through.

I like my work and have several opportunities to learn the underlying stuff. My main intention to pursue MFE was to both learn the subject formally as well as get an employment outside India.

The new role would give me several opportunites to learn but without a formal degree. Pursuing MFE would give a formal degree and I suppose many more chances and also a chance to work in western world.

But current state in US and Europe has made me unsure of whether I will be able to find a good role. As currently, my friends in US pursuing MFE were really struggling to find a job with software development background. Also they informed it is almost impossible to even land a interview in quant trading groups without a background in the field. Also as there is almost no financial assistance, I will have to pursue the higher studies on loan.

So am unsure of whether to pursue MFE or join the new role. I am currently 28 years old so it is kind my final attempt to pursue as otherwise it would get really late to start a new career.

You certainly know in your heart the most logic choice for you but need some assurance. Here it is: keep you job and take any open opportunity that comes your way.
MFE is not the promised land and your friends know it first hand.
