Taking GRE as Applied Math Major

Hello, sorry if this has been asked before, but is studying and taking the GRE still worth it if I have good grades in my math courses?

I am an applied math, computer science, and economics triple major. I have a 3.98/4 GPA at an American non-target with a submitted economics paper as first author graduating 2026. No internships. My main target is UChicago, do they tend to value it more or less than other schools?

Welcome to QuantNet and your first post.
Some programs will have GRE as optional (Baruch, etc). Some programs will waive it if your undergrad GPA is over a certain threshold (GaTech QCF with 3.7 GPA minimum). Some will require it regardless.
Some people will apply to only programs where GRE is optional. If you apply to programs where GRE is mandatory, may as well take it, get a high GRE Q and then move to the next thing.
GRE as a filter is becoming less useful hence it's optional for some.
My advice is to reach out to Chicago or programs that require GRE and ask for a waiver. With a 3.98 GPA and math undergrad, most will accommodate you.
 
Thanks Andy! I think most of the programs I'm interested in have gotten rid of it as a requirement including UChicago. I'll keep that in mind.

If you prepare early, go through all the posts shared by our members, you will be in a pretty good shape.
What you have is time and finding the resources here early vs your competitors who discover MFE programs before the admission cycle opens.
