you could ask, but once on hold - admit is a lot subjective. So you never know.. it depends on peer applicant pool, and any drop outs being the main criteria..

Hi,
I just received a letter from the admission committee at Berkeley saying that they have put me on a 'hold' status for the academic year 2017-18. At the same time, the letter also says that
'we are ready to guarantee that we will recommend you for admission for the 2018‐19 MFE
Program.' It goes on to say 'Our guarantee of admission is contingent on your reapplication to the program and also on your successful completion of some conditions' . These conditions include taking their pre-program courses among other things.
Now my question is this: What does this exactly mean? It seems that they don't really intend to test me further by taking my 2nd interview (I had 1 interview before this which was decent) . But what confuses me is that if they are willing to take me in next year, then why did they not put me on 'waitlist' status for this year and give me a chance to get in this year itself? Also, is it mandatory for me to fulfill these conditions or are they just recommended?
Hoping someone would be able to shed more light on this. Of course, I intend to talk to the admission office as well to get a little more clarity.
No news yet after the first interview...Any thought on Berkeley's interview? Anyone received a second round or heard from Linda?
Just got invited to second interview with Linda, I wasn't told if its technical or not.
I should have been more specific, I got the email last night like at 8pm, I was supposed to post this last night but realized I hadn't posted it. Thanks, don't know what to expect though with this interview
Linda's interview is always a behavioral one. And it seems that invitations to the second interview were not sent all at once. You could have a look at the tracker. How is the interview with Linda like? Anyone has questions from past years? Are there technical questions or only behavioral?
I had a technical interview with a former student but I haven't been invited to interview with Linda. Does this mean reject?
It really depends on your background and the interviewer. For those who completed their first interview, what questions did you get asked?
