Hello,
Can you please kindly help me choose from my admits.? I have tagged you in the post.
I am currently having admits from TAMU, NCSU, UCONN & SUNY. Can you please guide me through as to which I should choose keeping jobs and course in mind.?

Thanks,
Vaibhav
Hi,thanks for your reply to my post (http://tinyurl.com/pwfpqt4).Well,I do think my English is excellent, but I'm concerned about the fact that it still has an Indian accent(albeit not very heavy).I don't have a US accent.Would that be a problem? Also,do you have any idea about IBD/Consulting recruiting at MIT MFin?I believe 1 each out of a total of 124 lands up an MBB/GS/MS job.Any idea what my odds would be?

I am concerned about my odds because I don't really have an undergraduate degree from the US. I have 1 year work. ex. in risk management at BB bank and decent extra-curricular activities and a good GPA and GRE score to show. Appreciate any insights on this, thanks a lot !

Well, there's about 12 BBs + the consulting firms. Throw in some MMs and I think your odds of IBD at MIT are north of 20-25%. That may very well be as good as Harvard undergrad.

If you are good at math and have excellent English communication skills, it's easier to land a job as a quant than to land a job as a banker.

Great ! Thanks for your help ! I really appreciate it.
Hi,would appreciate your advice on a query that I have.I wish to work in IBD/Consulting and have an admit to MIT MFin.Do you happen to know the how IBD/Consulting recruiting is for MIT MFin?I graduated in 2013 from a top 10 engineering school in India and have a year of work experience in risk management at Credit Suisse.Any idea how my profile would fare while applying to IBD/Consulting roles?Thank you so much.

I don't know any specifics but for what you want to do, try to get an MBA from Harvard.

Thank you for your reply ! Really appreciate it.

Well, HBS was my original dream. But HBS MBA seems like a long shot. Any idea if risk management profiles from BB banks are welcome at a school like HBS ? My GPA, GMAT, work progression and extra-curricular activities should be fine by the time I apply to B schools for an MBA.

Nice Job..
Hello Ming Huang. I also applied to UW-CFRM and UMN-MFM. I saw that you posted that you are pending on UMN.
Did you get an email that you are on a wait list or just you are still waiting?
Because I really want to get into UMN so just wonder about it...
I hope we can get a good notification from both schools.

Best,
Nathaniel

Hi Andy
I got the acceptance from Rutgers FSRM and Suny Buffalo MS Finance Quantitative track programs.
Please help in choosing one of these programs.
How the curriculum of these programs differ?
Which program will be better for an international student to get internship and job placements easily?
Please suggest.
At last he asked me what my first choice is and how much chance I will come if I get enrolled. Professor Martin is pretty nice and we talked about 45 minutes. He also talked a lot about their curriculum, career service and work opportunities in the west coast.

Hope this is helpful for you! Good luck!
4. For a joint PDF of x and y, how to find marginal density. If f (x) and f (y) are independent, what's their joint density function. How to find the covariance, what does it mean that an estimator is unbiased.
5. For programming, he didn't ask me questions and just said they will use both C++ and R.
Questions I remembered are:
1. Find the derivative of some x*log (x), cos (x^2), pretty straight forward
2. When you take partial derivative with a vector, the result is a scalar or vector
3. Some concepts about linear algebra, like what is the definition of singular matrix, when a matrix is invertible,
First, he asked some general questions about my interest, resume and courses in the transcript.
In the technical part, he asked many concepts about math/probability/stats and programming.
Hi Ming,
I noticed you were asking for the interview experience on the UW CFRM program. I had the interview with Professor Doug Martin on Wed and got admitted yesterday.
Hey buddy, I am applying for bharuch and columbia ms in financial engineering course. could you tell me what should I write in my essay or give me a review of my essay if i send it to you..my id is lucky.sahoo280@gmail.com..thanks in advance
Hey Anthony, I just got into WUSTL MSF Corporate finance track. I am an international student and would like to work in US after my masters but there are no statistics for International student placements on the career website. Plus the corporate finance track has very few international students? Is that because MSF corporate finance is not worthy for an international student?

I think international students gravitate to the quant track because they are more comfortable in that area. This is a generalization of course.

The corporate finance track is going to be for those interested in banking, asset management, valuation, credit analysis, etc. I would look at it as a positive.
Prof. Abbott, If someone with an MSc in Scientific Computing from CIMS sends you a resume, would you rather see that he took a class in Stochastic Calculus or Advanced Risk Management? I will take either one of those classes as an elective. I want this degree to be used in finance, so, as electives, I selected classes from the core courses from the Math for Finance Program. Thank you!
