Criticisms are definitely expected and welcomed, and I agree some of the points Emalu makes. However, you do not start off by saying:
People are mad because Emalu makes his points in a unprofessional and insulting way. People will defend if someone he/she knows and respects is being attacked.
Can anyone please comment on why there is a record-high applications this year?
Is it because of the economic conditions, more people decide to apply to graduate school?
I think for 2 reasons
1) more schools accept GRE.
2) GRE Q section is easier than that of GMAT.
By the way, in some countries where they only offer paper GRE exam, it is even harder to get 500+ verbal.
Therefore, many people fly to adjacent countries to take the computerized one.
Agree! and I grew up in Hong Kong, and Taiwan.
For Hong Kong, outside of work, in most cases English still works, it is after all an official language.
For Taiwan, outside of work, Chinese (Mandarin) > English. Or you are limited to certain places to hang out.
** On 2/15/11, Received the email says the application is still under review and will receive the decision by March 1st.

I think you can put "proficient in c++" on your resume.
When you are competitive enough to get interviewed, you will have a chance to show it to your interviewer by saying "I learn it on my own." You will be tested if the interviewer is in doubt. And this is when you can let interviewer know...
I can't attend the information session on 9/17 since I will be in the middle of the class.

Thank you.
I am graduating in May from Baruch.
